Financial aid

Webster University makes every effort to meet the demonstrated financial need of accepted
degree-seeking students who wish to attend the University. If you wish to apply for Federal Student Aid you must follow the procedures precisely in order to receive an award. Please note that you may apply for Financial Aid throughout the year, but the deadline for maximum award amounts is March 1st every year.

American citizens, U.S. national, permanent residents, refugees, or those who reside permanently in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible for Federal Student Aid. (Documentation of applicable immigration status is required if the applicant is not a U.S. citizen.)

Financial aid applicants are considered for aid from every program for which they are eligible, including:

  • Grants and scholarships — awards that do not require repayment or service.
  • Long-term loans — awards that require repayment, including principal and interest, over a period of several years after completion of study at the University.

Eligible students are offered aid in the form of “financial aid packages.” The types and amounts of aid in each package vary according to the student’s total educational costs, his or her ability to pay for those costs from family and personal resources, his or her academic achievements, and the types of aid for which the student is eligible.

How to Apply for Financial Aid:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Renewal Application on www.fafsa.ed.gov . Your application (file) must be complete by March 1 for maximum consideration of gift and student employment assistance. Applications completed after March 1 will be awarded from remaining funds. Student loan applications are accepted throughout the academic year. However, early application is encouraged. The Webster University FAFSA code is 002521.
  2. Loan Entrance Counseling.
Completing the entrance counseling is a requirement for the Stafford loan program. It is a good idea to complete this requirement even if you are not interested in borrowing Stafford loan funds right away.
  3. Complete a Webster University Financial Aid Application found here

Please note that all Financial Aid Applications are processed at our main campus in St Louis and you will be assigned a Financial Aid Officer there (you can find your Financial Aid Officer information here) Therefore, it will be your responsibility to ensure that all required documents have been submitted. Students and parents are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid if they have questions about financial aid or need assistance in completing financial aid forms. Phone: 314-968-6992 or 1-800-WU-FINAD, email: finacaid@webster.edu
In addition you may contact our Financial Aid liaison at the Leiden campus, Ellen Bout

If additional information is required to process your file, you will receive a follow-up letter from the Financial Aid Office in St. Louis. Communication from the Financial Aid Office can take some time due to the number of applicants.

Once all information is received by the Financial Aid Office in St. Louis, you will receive an award letter in the mail. Award information is also available on Webster University's website under your Connections login.

In order to assist as many students as possible, Federal Financial Aid cannot award 100 percent of a student's demonstrated need. Financial aid is designed to supplement a family's contribution; therefore a student should be prepared to finance a portion of his/her cost of education.

Please note: financial aid is not dispersed until after your studies begin. Therefore you must arrange to have your own funding for travel and living costs for at least one to two months after the beginning of your study.

Tips to Remember:

  • Deadline for maximum consideration is March 1. Funds are limited and awarded on a first come basis.
  • You must apply for aid every year.
  • Missing the on-time deadline will limit the amount of aid for which you are considered.
  • You can complete the tax form information using estimate figures. If need be, do this rather than miss the deadline.
  • Quickly respond to all requests for information.
  • Put your name and student ID number on all documents turned in to the campus.
  • Keep a copy of all documents related to your financial aid.
  • Keep a record of all previous loans, including promissory notes and disclosure statements.
  • Ask questions if you do not understand!
  • Make sure you request all prior transcripts to be sent to Webster University.
  • Try not to make any of the common application errors that often occur.

An additional option: Scholarships and Grants at Webster University Leiden
