Depending upon a student's nationality, a student visa may be required for entrance into the Netherlands. ALL non-EU students, however, must apply for a resident permit. Below you will find information for both procedures.
Category A: Students from the European Union countries, including the new EU members Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia, or from Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland or the United States.
Category B: All countries not listed in Category A.
As soon as you arrive in The Netherlands, you will have to apply for a Residence permit (VVR). Students from EU countries as well as students from Poland, Czech republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungaria and Slovakia are exempted from this procedure.
The costs of the application are Euro 433 if you do not need a prior MVV (provisional residence permit; students from Category A) and Euro 188 if you have arrived in the Netherlands on an MVV (those from category B).
! NOTE: All students with a residency permit must by law complete a minimum of 15 Webster credits (30 EC) per year that they are registered. Any student who does not obtain 15 credits (30 EC) annually will have his/her study visa /residency permit revoked by the Immigration Services.
