Kim Portnoy Ensemble in “A Tribute to Frank Loesser”- 3/18/13

Webster University presents Jazz at Webster: Shepard and Davis Endowed Scholarship Concert, featuring the Kim Portnoy Ensemble in “A Tribute to Frank Loesser.”  The concert will begin at 7 p.m. on March 18 in the Winifred Moore Auditorium, 470 E. Lockwood Ave., Webster Groves, MO, 63119.

The concert will feature vocalists Debby Lennon and Charles Glenn with Paul DeMarinis, saxophone; Steve Schenkel, guitar; Kim Portnoy, piano; Ric Vice, bass; and Clarence Newell, drums. Student performers include: Lola Hennicke, vocals; Dre Concepcion, flute; Gabe Maichel, piano; and Kevin Cheli, drums. These students are recipients of the Susie Shepard or Donald O. Davis Scholarships.

This concert, a benefit for the Susie Shepard and Donald O. Davis Endowed Scholarships, celebrates the music of one of Broadway's most distinctive voices: Frank Loesser. Many of the songs will be from Loesser's most celebrated musicals: “Guys and Dolls,” “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” “The Most Happy Fella” and others. Some of the songs to be performed include: “Once in Love with Amy,” “Standing on the Corner,” “The Brotherhood of Man,” “I'll Know,” and “I've Never Been in Love Before.”
