Webster University’s Study Abroad Program Receives Recognition
‘Open Doors 2013’ Report Ranks Webster University First in Missouri and Midwest Region in Long-Term Study Abroad Participation
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 22, 2013 – Webster University’s Study Abroad program has received
another prestigious recognition. Webster’s long-term study abroad programs rank 13th among all U.S. master’s degree-granting institutions, and first in the same category
among Missouri institutions as well as among all Midwestern institutions, according
to the Institute of international Education’s recently released annual “Open Doors
Report.”
Over the past several years the excellence of Webster’s Study Abroad program has also
been ranked highly by U.S. News & World Report. And in 2012, in a special section
entitled “College, Reinvented,” the Chronicle of Higher Education singled out Webster
as a model of international higher education, one that uses its global presence to
recreate real intellectual circulation. According to the Chronicle story, “much of
Webster’s international mobility is simply baked into its structure. The common curriculum
and the assortment of foreign campuses makes it easier for U.S.-based students to
study abroad without worrying if they’ll get off track and graduate late. About 20
percent of the undergraduates go overseas.”
“High-quality study abroad programs are essential to our vision of becoming the premier
U.S.-based university setting the standard for global education,” said Webster President
Elizabeth J. “Beth” Stroble. “We are proud that our study abroad programs help immerse
our students in the rich diversity of the human experience. With the opening of our
campus in Ghana, on our fourth continent, we look forward to continuing this mission-driven
commitment to global education and innovation.”
“The rankings are reflective of our continued leadership in global education," said
Julian Schuster, Webster University provost, senior vice president and chief operating
officer. "Through the development of robust study abroad options at our international
campuses and the launch of our Global Citizenship Program common curriculum, we are
imparting to our students the foundational knowledge and skills they need to be true
global citizens in this truly global century.”
