Taco Tuesday
Webster University plans to break a second world record by creating the World’s Longest
Taco Line
ST. LOUIS, April 15, 2014 – Webster University has locations around the world providing
a global education, but on Tuesday, April 22, they can get a world record education
as students attempt to break the Guinness World Record for World’s Longest Taco Line.
“We think Webster University is a world class university,” said Bill Boxdorfer, event
organizer. “When we were trying to decide an event for the spring, we thought it might
be fun to increase awareness of Webster University around the globe, but for something
a little bit different than what we’re normally known for.”
The current World’s Longest Taco Line measures at a little bit more than 654 feet
long – which is about 1,460 tacos. Webster University hopes to create a 700-feet-
long taco line.
The Campus Activities group has been planning the event since September along with
the University’s food service provider, Sodexo.
“To break a record, you have to fill out an application and send it to Guinness World
Records,” said Boxdorfer. “They then send out the guidelines that you need to follow
and then there’s more paperwork after the attempt is made.”
Additionally, the record breaking attempt must be witnessed by three people outside
of Webster University. Webster Groves Mayor Gerry Welch, Jared Minnick of Minnick
Surveying and Candace Hall will be on hand as official witnesses for the event.
Although this is the first attempt to break the “World’s Longest Taco Line” record,
Webster University has previously broken a different world record. In 2012, Webster
University broke the record for the World’s Longest Ice Cream Sundae with a 200.3
foot long dessert.
Webster University students, faculty and staff are invited to help with the event
on April 22 at 11 a.m. on the quad. If it rains, the event will be held at 3 p.m.
in Grant Gym. Participants are invited to eat the tacos after the record is broken
and leftover food will be donated to a local charity.
