Webster University Names Charles Hahn Vice President for Advancement


ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI - Webster University President Elizabeth “Beth” J. Stroble and Provost, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Julian Z. Schuster announced today that Charles Hahn from Champaign, Illinois has been appointed Webster’s Vice President for Advancement. In this position, Hahn will lead the University’s advancement, fundraising and alumni engagement efforts.

“Charlie brings a vision for university advancement based on accomplishments throughout a distinguished career,” President Stroble said. “With his vast array of leadership and university advancement experiences, he is well poised to help us lead our Webster University advancement efforts as we enter our next century in 2015.” 

Hahn comes to Webster most recently from the University of Illinois Foundation, the official fundraising and private gift-receiving organization for the University of Illinois and its three campuses at Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield. 

In his role with the Foundation, Hahn helped execute a successful $2.3 billion capital campaign serving in multiple roles and most recently as Vice President, Special Campaigns. 

Prior to this role, Hahn served as Associate Chancellor for Development at the University of Illinois at Springfield and Vice President of the University of Illinois foundation. As Foundation Vice President, he led development efforts, served as a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, and managed a successful $1.5 billion University-wide campaign. 

Earlier appointments include Vice President for Advancement at Sangamon State University and Executive Director of the Sangamon State University Foundation and Director of Development at the University of Illinois Foundation. Sangamon State University became part of University of Illinois in Springfield in 1995.

“Charlie’s systematic approach to university advancement will be immensely valuable to Webster at this pivotal time in our history,” Provost Shuster said. “He has proven his effectiveness in a complex and networked environment. This will serve him well at Webster.” 

Webster University has over 178,000 alumni worldwide and in 2012 completed a successful comprehensive “Webster Works Campaign” exceeding its $55 million goal. 

“Webster University feels like the right place at the right time,” said Hahn. “As the University gears up for its Centennial, the enthusiasm is palpable and the institution is poised to advance. This is the perfect time to strengthen Webster’s relationships to benefit students and Webster communities. I look forward to joining Webster’s global network and working with the Webster Groves, larger St. Louis, and global communities.”

Hahn was selected as part of a national search with the assistance of Witt/Kiefer Executive Search. Witt/Kieffer is among the nation’s preeminent executive search firms and foremost in placement of advancement professionals. Hahn begins on June 16.
