New Director Appointed to Ghana Campus

Christa Sanders Christa Sanders currently serves as associate director of NYU Accra, New York University’s study abroad program in Ghana

ACCRA, GHANA (Aug. 5, 2014) - Christa Sanders was named the interim director of Webster University’s campus in Accra, it was announced today. She currently serves as associate director of NYU Accra, New York University’s study abroad program in Ghana.

She will start her new position Sept. 1.

We are excited that Professor Sanders will be joining Webster University and lead our Ghana campus,” said Grant Chapman, associate vice president of Academic Affairs and director of International Programs at Webster University.  “Her wealth of experience in international education, US education, and education in Ghana make her the ideal next leader of Webster Ghana.”

Sanders has worked for New York University for the past 10 years and helped establish that University’s Ghana program. Before joining NYU, she worked for the Institute for International Education in New York where she managed a range of scholarship programs for both Latin American and African students through the Institute’s Scholarship and Training Programs division. She previously was an independent consultant who developed short-term study abroad programs to Eastern and Western Africa along with materials geared towards American students of color studying abroad.

Sanders worked in Madrid, Spain as the Chief Counselor of Students for Syracuse University’s Madrid Division of International Programs Abroad, where she co-founded Voices of Change to help American students cope with discrimination outside of the United States.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, and two master’s degrees from Columbia University in education and in counseling psychology with a concentration in cross-cultural studies/multiculturalism. 

Webster opened its Ghana campus in March of this year with graduate classes. Undergraduate classes are scheduled to start in the fall.
