Webster University the Netherlands, is proud to announce sponsoring 25 time Dutch Championship Chess player: Anna Maja Kazarian during the World Youth Chess Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, from the 20th of September until the 4th of October, 2016.
Anna-Maja Kazarian is 16 years old and was born in Heerenveen, Friesland, the Netherlands; her parents are originally from Georgia. At four, she taught herself to read and write and skipped a year of elementary school. Anna-Maja started to play chess when she was six years old. Anna-Maja: ‘When I was six years old, I spent my holidays in Georgia (August 2006), and my grandfather taught me to play chess.’ In fact, her grandfather Kako (Simon) Lomsadze taught her how to play checkers, chess, cards, and backgammon in one day. The next day he asked her: ‘Tell me Anna-Maja, which game did you like best?’
She answered: ‘I prefer to play chess.’ From that day on, her chess career took off. To date, Anna-Maja has won the Dutch Chess Championship 25 times and has won 188 cups within seven years.
Anna- Maja received online coaching from Susan Polgar, who is a five-time Olympic
Championship winner with ten overall medals. Susan Polgar, women's world champion
and grandmaster, is the Director of the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) at Webster University St. Louis.
