Webster Leiden Campus Students Win Julian Schuster Writing Awards
April 30, 2025
Webster Leiden Campus students Jaycie Haugen and Amelia Hughes have won first and second prizes, respectively, in the annual Julian Schuster Writing Awards for first-year students.
More than 50 student writers from all Webster University campuses worldwide were nominated for the awards, which celebrate exemplary, thought-provoking academic writing. The awards ceremony was on April 24 and honored students from the St. Louis, Tashkent and Leiden campuses.
Haugen won first prize in the Research Category for her essay, “Nurturing Creativity: How Structured Parenting Approaches Enhance A Child’s Creative Potential.”
Hughes’ paper, “Creativity and Structure: Bricolage,” received second prize in the Reflective Analysis Category.
Both papers were written as part of the final project in the Fall 2024 Global Cornerstone Seminar, GCP 1200, taught by Jonathan Talbott. He nominated the students for the award.
“Both Jaycie and Amelia have worked extraordinarily hard to develop their thinking, research and writing skills,” Talbott said. “I am thrilled that two students from our small campus are being recognized by these awards. It has been an honor to be able to help these excellent and deserving students grow as writers.”
